The left hand side (as facing the rear of the house) is the more straightforward side, so blockwork has been removed in readiness for the padstone that the supporting steel will sit on.

The right hand side is more involved as there used to be a window in place before the extension was added. So this has been blocked up again in order for the padstone to sit on.
